E-cab launches awareness campaign to gain customers’ trust

E-commerce stakeholders now resort to awareness campaigns to give a positive message about the sector as it is losing credibility because of lousy business strategies of some e-commerce entities.

Twenty e-commerce companies launched the campaign on Tuesday at the e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh.

“We want to bring real e-commerce entrepreneurs to the forefront and not leave the way open for the bad business strategies. E-Cab is working with the government on several issues in this regard. Membership of several organisations has been suspended. Other accused organisations have been kept under surveillance,” said e-cab president Shomi Kaiser,

“We are trying to launch an integrated grievance management service,” said Abdul Wahed Tomal, general secretary of e-Cab.

“Access to Information (a2i) is cooperating in this service and the problem will be greatly reduced if buyers, consumers and government agencies remain cooperative,” he said.

Asked about money stuck in escrow service, Tomal said the escrow service is a technology-dependent and automated method. The e-Cab has sent a letter to the Bangladesh Bank regarding the money stuck in the payment gateway, he said adding that problems and concerns of e-commerce stakeholders were also raised at the bilateral meeting with the commerce ministry.

Fahim Mashroor, CEO of Ajker Deal and Bdjobs, said, “Not everyone can be infamous for a few companies. Most of the companies are providing good services and this is the reason why this sector is developing.”

Zia Ashraf, founder and COO of Chaldal, said, “E-commerce companies provide product and services to the customers. But to invest in a company, one has to look at the company’s documents.”
