Bangladesh Trade and Investment Summit 2021 to start from October 26

The weeklong “Bangladesh Trade and Investment Summit-2021" will start from October 26 virtually to attract global trade and investment.

Jointly organised by the Commerce Ministry and Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the event will continue till 1 November,

marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangladesh’s Golden Jubilee of Independence.

Addressing a press briefing on Sunday, DCCI President Rizwan Rahman said, “Some 552 companies from 38 countries will take part in 450 B2B (business to business) match-making sessions.”

Rizwan said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate virtually the summit from Ganabhaban.

“The summit will help to explore new business opportunities and attract FDI in Bangladesh. This week-long investment summit includes 9 sectors underscoring critical enablers and avenues of the economy, demanding massive investments especially in Infrastructure (physical, logistics and energy), IT/ITES & FINTECH, Leather goods, Pharmaceuticals, Automotive and Light Engineering, Plastic products, Agro and Food Processing, Jute and Textiles and FMCG (Fast-moving consumer goods) and Retail Business,” he added.

DCCI president informed that six webinars on different trade and investment related issues will be organized, where representatives from the business community, experts from local and international and policy makers will participate to put their insights on these issues.

He also opined that this virtual summit would showcase Bangladesh's preparedness during the Covid-19 pandemic to the investors and entrepreneurs, bringing together top policymakers, business leaders and investors from across the world.

Addressing the press conference, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi urged the foreign investors to come and visit Bangladesh saying, "We are ready to provide all facilities for more investments in Bangladesh as we have a lot of skilled manpower."

He also said, "As Bangladesh is moving forward, we would like to flourish further. After 2026, we might face new challenges but we are modernising our products to cope up with any such competition.  

Commerce secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh said that this summit is a pioneer example of Public-Private Partnership where highest entrepreneurs will participate.

He also hoped that the export potentials of our country would be highlighted through this summit, which will help to draw more investment and foreign trade from abroad.
