State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman has said the government remains beside the victim families affected by recent arson attack and violence by miscreants in Pirgonj upazila of Rangpur.
"As long as the affected people are not able to turn around and return to normal life, the government will continue to provide them all kinds of help and assistance," he said while inspecting construction works of damaged and burnt houses in the upazila today.
Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Md Mohsin and high officials of the district, police and Pirgonj upazila administrations were present at the time.
The state minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is always inquiring about the affected Hindu families of Kasba Majhpara village in Pirgonj upazila and giving directions on necessary actions.
"Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his worthy daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina are symbols of communal harmony," he said.
For the last 50 years, people of all religions, faiths, castes and creeds, including Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists and Christians, have been living peacefully in harmony and brotherhood in the country maintaining communal harmony.
"The attackers in Pirgonj are the enemies of the people and enemies of the development of the country," he said.
Enamur said there is no compromise with those who disrupt the development of the country by creating divisions through the most heinous terrorist activities.
"Those involved in the heinous arson attacks and violence against the Hindu community in Pirgonj will be searched out and brought under the law of the land," he said, adding that the government has already announced that no criminal will be exempted.
Earlier, the state minister also visited the affected Kasba Majhipara village of Pirgonj upazila on Thursday and distributed corrugated iron sheets and cash money for house construction among the victims as humanitarian assistance.
He also distributed packets of dried and other foodstuffs.
