Chhatak Cement Company gets 15 more months

The government has given state-owned Chhatak Cement Company another 15 months to upgrade its production system from wet process to dry process.

Industries ministry sources said the time extension – from December 2021 to March 2023 – was given considering the pandemic had impeded work.

Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) is implementing the project.

The total expenditure of the production process transformation is Tk 890.11 crore. Although the project time was extended, the cost remained unchanged.

From now on, the company will use fuel-efficient and environment friendly dry process system to increase production capacity. The daily production capacity of the factory is 500MT per day. The new production method will boost the daily capacity to 1,500MT and annual capacity to 4,50,000MT.

Meanwhile, the government did not extend the BCIC’s time extension request for warehouse construction projects to store chemicals on a temporary basis. It means, this project will have to be finished within the scheduled time, December this year.

The government is constructing 54 warehouses for storing chemicals at a cost of Tk 79.42 crore through BCIC. Of these, the construction of 32 warehouses is in the final stage while 13 are under process.
