Call for efforts to overcome industrial challenges

Industry Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun on Wednesday said it is time to strengthen mutual cooperation among countries to overcome challenges for the fourth industrial revolution.

The minister said this while addressing the 2nd Regional Conference on Industrial Developmentat Jakarta, Indonesia, collaborated by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, according to a media release issued by the Ministry of Industries.

The attributes of fourth industrial revolution such as artificial intelligence, robots, Internet of things, autonomous vehicles, nanotechnology and biotechnology are opening up new avenues of opportunities along with new challenges, observed Nurul.

He said: “Considering all these issues, Bangladesh has formulated various policies, laws, rules and strategies, while steps have been taken to increase efficiency.”

“We can utilize opportunities and overcome challenges for which a joint effort of all necessary.”

The minister argued that the current world is going through technological transformation and technology has been evolving at an infinite pace and profoundly affecting the global economy.

The fourth industrial revolution would play a role in increasing global income and improving the quality of life for all worldwide, hoped Nurul.

The two-day conference was attended by the representatives of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), industry ministers from several countries including Sri Lanka and Indonesia, and government and business representatives from about 25 countries, including ASEAN.

Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun took part in a bilateral meeting with Sri Lankan Industry Minister Wimal Weerawansa and discussed business, trade and other important issues of mutual interest.
