Residents of Karail slum continued to show enthusiasm for the Covid-19 vaccine on the second day of the campaign on Wednesday.

More than 4,000 people of the vulnerable low-income group were administered during the vaccination campaign, according to the officials of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

Among the vaccine recipients, some 2,213 were male and the rest were female.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in association with DNCC took the initiative to vaccinate 15,000 people on Tuesday and 20,000 people on the second day. However, the vaccine was being provided as per demand.

Earlier on the first day of the campaign, some 6,321 residents of the Karail slum were vaccinated.

DNCC officials said that they would continue vaccinating people living in the largest slum of the capital.

Dhaka North City Corporation officials said that any slum dwellers aged above 18 years were allowed for the vaccination.

On the second day, it was seen that the slum residents were patiently standing in lines with photocopies of their NID cards. People without NID cards were getting vaccinated with copies of their birth certificates.

DNCC is conducting a free vaccination drive from 11 vaccination centres.

According to DNCC health department sources, vaccination activities will continue until at least 80% of the slum dwellers are vaccinated against Covid-19.
