Sumon elected BIP president, Mehedi gen secy

Senior urban planner Fazle Reza Sumon was elected President of the Bangladesh Institute of Planners (BIP) while Sheikh Mohammad Mehedi Ahsan secured an uncontested win for the position of general secretary.

They were elected in the 15th executive committee election for the 2022-23 term held on Friday at the Planners Tower in the capital, said a press release.

Other office-bearers are Vice-President-1 Md Ariful Islam, Vice-President-2 Md Shafiq-ur-Rahman, Joint Secretary Mohammad Rassel Kabir, and Treasurer Md Musleh Uddin Hasan.

Besides, five executive members are Tamanna Binte Rahman, Tamzidul Islam, Rezaur Rahman, Mohamamd Hamidul Hasan Nabin, and Kazi Salman Hossain.

Md Manirul Alam Mithu, chief election commissioner, congratulated all the new leaders of the BIP after the election.

BIP’s advisory council Convener AKM Abul Kalam and current President Md Akter Mahmud were present at the event among others. Senior planners asked the newly elected leaders to contribute to the country’s development.
