The Ministry of Education is working to ensure quality vocational education under the guidelines of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury on Tuesday.

He made the remark at a policy paper presentation on “Developing Bangladesh Vocational Education; Learning from the experience of Germany” held at the Parjatan Bhaban in Dhaka’s Agargaon, adding that the sector is one of the top priorities of this government.

At this programme, the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Foundation also emphasised on further developing the country’s vocational education system, and creating training opportunities for the youth and SME entrepreneurs to build skilled manpower.

Mohibul was present as the chief guest, and SME Foundation Chairman Md Masudur Rahman presided over this event – organised jointly by the foundation and German development organisation Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Bangladesh.

The foundation’s Managing Director Md Mofizur Rahman moderated the programme, while former professor of Dhaka University MA Baqui Khalily presented the policy paper.

The deputy education minister said, “After taking over the responsibility in 2009, the incumbent government has changed the curriculum, increased the number of effective and subjective courses, and taken numerous initiatives to develop the vocational education system.

“However, this sector still needs further development.”

Directorate of Technical Education’s Director General Md Helal Uddin said, “The incumbent government is very sincere with its goal to further develop the vocational education system.

“It also took the initiative for categorising the vocational educational institutions under the A, B and C ratings system.”

SME Foundation’s Chairman Md Masudur Rahman said, “To move forward with the development trend of this government, it is necessary to build skilled manpower by boosting subject-related training opportunities, creating an internship policy and increasing practical learning.”
