2 Rohingyas killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

Two Rohingya people were killed in a reported gunfight with the Rapid Action Battalion at Damdamia in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar in the early hours of Friday.

The deceased were identified as Kefayet Ullah and Korban Ali.

RAB claimed the two were robbers and drug traders and they were accused in a number of drug and arms cases.

Acting on a tip-off that a gang of robbers took position in the Damdamia hill area with drugs and arms in their possession, a team of the battalion conducted a drive there, said Additional Superintendent of Police Md Abu Salam Chowdhury of RAB-15.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on the RAB personnel prompting them to retaliate for self-defence, he said.

At one stage of the gunfight, the robbers retreated from the scene and RAB men found the two bodies during their search.
