United Nations Resident Coordinator Mia Seppo on Thursday said that the human and financial cost of gender-based violence is enormous for Bangladesh.

She came up with the remarks while attending a virtual national dialogue held marking the International Day on the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and Local Consultative Group on Women’s Advancement and Gender Equality jointly organised the dialogue, said a media release.

“A comprehensive approach to tackle harmful gender norms and to promote gender equality is needed to realize the SDGs” she said in her speech as one of the special guests at the programme.

Md Muhibuzzaman, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs chaired the meeting.

In his speech, he focused on the co-ordination between law, policy, ministry, division, and organs with social or motivational, legal, and administrative approaches to eradicate sexual violence.

Ambassador of Denmark to Bangladesh, Winnie Estrup Petersen was also present there as special guest.
