Covid-19: 3 more deaths, 205 new cases

Bangladesh registered three Covid-19 related deaths and 205 new infections in the past 24 hours until Sunday morning.

According to the latest data, the total number of fatalities reached to 27,978 while the positivity rate was recorded 1.03 per cent on Sunday.

After adding the fresh cases, the total caseload jumped to 15,75,784 said a regular bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Bangladesh has so far tested 1,08,52,052 samples.

Meanwhile, 299 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,40,317.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

However, Public health experts fear a slow pace of vaccination, waning vaccine immunity, sheer

disregard for Covid safety protocols, reopening of schools and increased travel may set the stage for another Covid wave in Bangladesh -- a trend many European countries are witnessing now.
