The Cox’s Bazar Airport authority has formed a committee to investigate how two cows managed to enter the runway on Tuesday evening, and suspended four Ansar members for negligence of duty over the incident.

“The probe body is unearthing how the two cows entered the runway despite strict surveillance. However, we are yet to track down their owner,” Cox’s Bazar Airport Manager Golam Mortuza told The Business Post.

On the matter, Civil Aviation Authority sources said the east and west parts of Cox’s Bazar airport has been opened to facilitate the runway’s expansion towards the seashore.

So, the two cows may have come from a local farm, and managed to enter the airport premises avoiding detection from the Ansar guards, they added.

At 5:57pm on Tuesday, a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight (EA-437) hit two cows on the Cox’s Bazar Airport runway during takeoff. Both cows died after getting hit by the plane, but the 94 passengers on-board landed safely at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on 7:05pm.
