BGMEA seeks Russian support for RMG export

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association has sought cooperation from Russia to export apparel goods in the Russian market.

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan in a meeting with Russian ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Vikentyevich Mantytskiy on Thursday sought cooperation from the Russian government for resolving the trade barriers and paving the way to export readymade garments and other products to the Russian market.

According to BGMEA, Bangladesh exported apparel goods worth around $594 million to Russia in FY 2020-21 and it was $440 million in the 2019-20 fiscal year.

Complexities in transactions through banking channels and tariff complications act as a barrier for Bangladesh to perform better while there is a huge demand for Bangladeshi RMG goods in Russia, the organisation said.

BGMEA Vice President Miran Ali and First Secretary at the Russian Embassy Anton Vereshchagin were also present at the meeting.
