Government working to diversify textile industry: Golam Dastagir

Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi on Thursday said that the government has been working to diversify the textile industry by creating skilled manpower and adding modern technologies.

“The ministry is working tirelessly to move forward the textile industry towards growth and globalisation”, the minister said while talking to the reporters marking the National Textile Day-2021, said a press release.

Besides, “Dhakai Muslin House” was established to promote Bangladesh’s golden heritage Muslin cloths commercially in large scale, he stated.

Golam Dastagir said textile industry managed to escape most of the adverse impacts of Covid-19 pandemic due to special stimulus packages announced by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

On December 4, the ministry will honour seven organisations marking the National Textile Day-2021 for their contribution in securing the textile industry amid the economic damages caused by the Covid-19, he added.

The seven organisations are-Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), Bangladesh Textile Mills Association, Bangladesh Garment Buying House Association(BGBA), Bangladesh Specialized Textile Mills and Power loom Industries Association, Bangladesh Terry Towel and Linen Manufacturers and Exporters Association(BTTLMEA) and Bangladesh Jatiya Tanti Samity.

Every year, National Textile Day is observed on December 4, across the country since 2009 for modernisation and gradual development of the industry.

This year’s theme of National Textile Day is “Globalisation of the textiles sector; Development of Bangladesh”

A programme will be held at Osmani Memorial Auditorium marking the day where State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian and president of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Textiles and Jute Mirza Azam will be present as special guests.
