The government is implementing a Tk 85 billion project to develop industries on both sides of the Teesta River, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said on Sunday.
“We’re working on setting up several special economic zones in Rangpur and took a Tk 85 billion project,” he said at a scholarship distribution ceremony of Rangpur Division Journalists Association (RDJA) at the ERF auditorium in Dhaka.
“Industries are being set up here. A river port has been built to facilitate the shipment of goods from northeast India and we’re improving the river’s navigability,” he said.
The commerce minister also said that gas connections are being provided in Rangpur and an Agriculture University will be established in Kurigram.
He lauded RDJA for standing by the children and families of deceased journalists. RDJA President Mokshedur Rahman Masud presided over the programme where RDJA General Secretary Mizanur Rahman conducted it.
