The 9th SME Product Fair – being held at Dhaka’s Bangabandhu International Conference Center – became packed with visitors on Friday, a weekly holiday. City dwellers flocked to the 325 stalls at the event, attracted by creative and colourful products on display there.
Products made of jute and leather, dresses, designer fashion wear, handcrafted goods, organic food, agro, herbal, plastic, synthetic, electronics, IT, light engineering, and other local products are on sale at the fair.
On behalf of the fair organising team, Assistant General Manager of SME (small and medium enterprise) Foundation Md Morshed Alam said, “The number of visitors at the fair has more than tripled on the sixth day, compared to the first three-four days of this event.
“We are very aware about hygiene guidelines, and we are refusing entry to the venue to those without facemasks.”
He continued, “For the first time, the Dutch-Bangla Bank has set up an ATM in the venue, and more than Tk 10 lakh in transactions is happening here daily. Besides, leather products are getting a very good response from the customers this year.”
Speaking to The Business Post, SME entrepreneur and stall owner of Top leather Kaniz Fatema said, “Alhamdulillah, I am getting a huge response from customers this year, and my leather items are being appreciated by the visitors.
“Shaikh Siraj sir from channel I bought a pair of shoes from my stall, saying that the leather products available at my stall are on par with the international brands.”
A visitor named Parul Ibnat said, “Winter shawls, Nakshi Katha and other handcrafted items are very unique here, and the prices are also reasonable.”
