The High Court on Tuesday issued a rule asking authorities concerned to explain in four weeks as to why it shall not order them to give Tk1 crore in compensation to the family of seven-year-old Zihad Hossain who died after a wall collapsed on him at Azimpur last month.
The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order, after holding a hearing on a writ jointly filed by Zihad’s father Nazir Hossain and Ain o Odhikar Foundation.
The court made eight officials, including the housing and public works secretary and the chief engineer of Dhaka South City Corporation, respondents to its ruling.
Advocate Syed Mohiuddin Kabir moved the plea before the court.
Zihad was going to his school, holding the hand of his father, on November 9, when a portion of a boundary wall of Azimpur Sheikh Saheb Bazar Government Quarter fell on him.
Nazir promptly rescued his child from under the rubble and rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital but duty doctors declared him dead.
