Dhaka Nagar Paribahan to start on Dec 26

Dhaka Nagar Paribahan, the bus franchise system, will start operating 50 buses on the Ghatarchar-Kanchpur route from December 26.

The 21km-route will cover areas including Bosila, Mohammadpur, Elephant Road, Shahbagh, Paltan and Motijheel.

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh made the announcement during a press briefing at the DSCC Nagar Bhaban following the 20th meeting of the Bus Route Rationalisation Committee on Sunday.

“Dhaka Nagar Paribahan will start its official journey with 30 BRTC buses and 20 Trans-Silva buses on December 26. The buses on the Ghatarchar-Kanchpur route will be green in colour. Soon, a total of 100 buses will run on this route,” said Mayor Taposh.

“From day one, e-ticketing system would be introduced for the buses on this route,” said Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam, another member of the committee.

All bus driver and staff will wear specific clothing and visible identity card. Only buses which have registration and route permit will be able to operate on this route, he added.

On October 5, Dhaka South City Corporation’s (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh announced the launching of ‘Dhaka Nagar Paribahan’ which will run on a 21km route -- from Ghatarchar in Keraniganj to Kanchpur from December 1.

Taposh, however, made it clear that no old buses will be allowed to operate on the pilot route. The buses purchased after January 1 in 2019 that are plying now on this route will be included in the new service. “New buses will be added on the route.”

In all, 120 new buses will operate on this route. “Everyone, including the transport owners, has already agreed to this proposal,” said Taposh.
