The VAT Audit, Intelligence and Investigation Directorate has sought bank account details of two companies over the recent seizure of counterfeit cigarette tax stamps at the Chattogram port.
Its Director General Moinul Khan said a five-member investigation committee had also been formed in this connection, said a press release on Monday.
He said, “After reviewing overall information of the two organisations, legal action will be taken against those involved in the attempt to evade VAT and supplementary duty.”
VAT detectives said Chattogram customs house on December 16 filed a departmental and criminal case against Bappu Enterprise for using fake tax stamps in imported cigarettes.
