Bangabandhu introduced interest-free microcredit programme: Khasru

State minister for social welfare Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru today said Bangabandhu was the first head of the government who introduced interest-free microcredit distribution program in the country for improving the living condition of the common people.

He said, following the footsteps of Bangabandhu, the incumbent government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina continued the program of distributing the interest-free loan among the unprivileged grass-root level people for improving their lifestyle.

Khasru said these distributing the bank cheques for interest-free loan among the poverty-stricken people and stipend money to the poor meritorious students at the local Public Hall here.

The Ministry of Social Welfare in cooperation with Netrakona sader upazila parishad distributed the bank cheques for interest-free loans amounting to Taka 69 lakh among 235 poor people and the bank cheques for stipend money amounting to Taka 16 lakh to 106 poor students here.

Chaired by chairman of Netrakona sader upazila parishad Tafsiruddin Khan, the bank cheque distribution ceremony was addressed, among others, by chairman of Netrakona Zila Parishad Prasanta Kumar Ray, additional district magistrate Suhel Mahmud, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahmuda Akter and Deputy Director of Social Service Department Mohammad Alaluddin.

The function was conducted by Netrakona sader upazila social service officer Abdullah –AL-Mamun.
