Four of a family among 6 killed in road crashes

Six people, including four of a family, were killed in road accidents in Dhaka and Jamalpur districts on Monday.

Four women of a family were killed after a truck had hit an auto-rickshaw at Mrirdhakanda in Dhaka’s Nawabganj upazila early Monday.

The deceased were identified as Moina Begum, 50, Rahela Begum, 40, Sufia, 30, and Mala Begum, 46. They were residents of Gungerpar area in Nawabganj’s Nayanshree union, reports UNB.

Witnesses said the accident occurred around 7am when the sand-laden truck crashed into the auto-rickshaw, which was transporting the four women to Dohar, leaving them dead on the spot.

Sirajul Islam Sheikh, officer-in-charge (OC) of Nawabganj Police Station, said the truck had been seized.

A case had been filed in this regard, he added.

Meanwhile, a man and his wife were killed as a truck ploughed through their roadside house at Garohori village in Jamalpur’s Dewanganj upazila early Monday.

The deceased were Joynal Abedin, 48, a farmer, and his wife Hasina Begum, 40, UNB reports.

The Rowmari-bound fertiliser-laden truck skidded off the road and ploughed through the house after its driver lost control over the steering, leaving the couple, who were asleep, dead on the spot, said Dewanganj Police Station OC Mohabbat Kabir.

The driver had managed to flee the scene, the OC added.
