Stop honking horns unnecessarily: Shahab Uddin

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin on Wednesday said car drivers must stop the unnecessary use of horns aiming to help prevent sound pollution.

“Directives have been given to the authorities concerned to take necessary steps to amend the existing law so that legal action could be taken to this end,” he told a meeting here.

The meeting on ‘the progress of projects taken under the annual development programme (ADP) in fiscal 2021-22’ was arranged at the conference room of the ministry.

Shahab Uddin said none plays horns unnecessarily in developed countries and “drivers of our country must give up the habit of playing unnecessary horns”.

He said hydraulic horn use should be prevented to check noise pollution.

Deputy Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Habibur Nahar and Environment Secretary Md Mostafa Kamal were also present, a ministry press release said.
