Be more sincere in resolving complaints, minister tells WASA

Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives Minister Tazul Islam has asked the Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority to be more sincere in resolving complaints, while pointing out that the agency receives a lot of it.

He made the remark while addressing a “Bill Collection Award” ceremony organised by the Dhaka WASA on Sunday.

Discussing Bangladesh’s per capita income while speaking as the event’s chief guest, Tazul said, “When Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina came to power in 2009, our per capita income was below $700.

“In the last decade, this figure has risen to $2,554. The government is working tirelessly to meet the water needs of people across the country, such as setting up more water treatment plants in Chattogram, Rajshahi and Khulna.”

Tazul mentioned that several initiatives have been taken, and work is underway to provide quality water to the people of Dhaka, adding that the pipelines for the city’s water supply are very old and mostly unusable, and they are currently being replaced with better quality pipes.

He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government is giving equal priority to all sectors including power, education, health, communication, agriculture.

The minister continued, “Sheikh Hasina has set a target for Bangladesh to become a developed country by 2041. She has already managed to curb food shortages, facilitated 100 per cent electrification, and is currently working towards the nation’s digital transformation.

“If everyone works together, it will be possible for us to become a developed country before 2041.”
