After a long trailing around the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) at Purbachal, Sabiha Sultana from Narsigndi purchased a wooden Ruti maker at Tk 2,500 on Monday, much to her delight among many a product.

“I came to the fairground with my husband to enjoy this falling winter afternoon. After a long walk, I caught sight of the wooden Ruti maker that looks awesome and bought it,” she said.

“It is tough for me to make bread quickly for my husband in the wee hour as he gets ready for breakfast and then to office. This would help me keep pace with time I suppose.”

Like Sabiha many a visitor was spotted purchasing the wooden Ruti makers from the trade fair.

Talking to The Business Post, CEO of Laaibah Ruti Maker Md Humayun Kabir said there are 20-25 stalls where substandard Ruti markers are being sold. So, buyers should purchase it justifying real products.

“This is my first invention in the country. I thought about such an invention long ago, but began doing it in 2011,” he added.

Humayun Kabir explained that there are many electric, robotic and industrial Ruti makers in the world, but the wooden one is the first invention and exceptional.

There are four types of wooden Ruti makers, the prices of which range between Tk 2,000 and Tk 3,500 based on quality.

According to Humayun, they are yet to get optimum response from the city customers as most visitors are from Narayanganj and Gazipur; people in the capital don’t seem to come enough due to long distance.

The proprietor of RingGO Ruti Maker Md Moniruzzaman said they brought this product to the market one decade ago.

“Our products have been recognised by the Ministry of Industries. We are selling the model-902 (which makes 8 to 8.5-inch bread) at Tk 2,500 and model-903 (which makes 9 to 10-inch bread) at Tk 3,000 in the fair,” he maintained.

“We are getting less response due to a low number of visitors. We have come here just to campaign for my products.”

Moniruzzaman explained that they provide home delivery of their products free of cost if anyone is keen to purchase products online.

“Besides, we offer five years warranty. Customers can replace the products if rotten or spoiled within the five years,” he also said.

The month-long international trade fair was launched for the first time at Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre at Purbachal on January 1.

In previous years, the fair had been at Agarganon in the capital.

The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and the Ministry of Commerce have been organising the month-long annual fair since 1995.

A total of 225 stalls, 23 pavilions and 27 mini-pavilions have been erected at the DITF this year.
