The Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) on Tuesday demanded the National Insurance Day be upgraded to “Ka” grade from “Kha”.
A letter signed by IDRA Chairman Dr M Mosharraf Hossain in this regard was sent to the finance ministry on
January 2.
Insurance is an important and potential financial sector of the country which should be strengthened with expansion as well as public awareness and involvement, the letter stated.
The contribution of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is enormous as he formulated the basic insurance law and introduced the sector in the country, it said.
The National Insurance Day should be elevated to “Ka” grade from “Kha” to recognise the huge contribution of Bangabandhu to this sector, it added.
