The Ministry of Commerce has decided that the ongoing Dhaka International Trade Fair will remain open in compliance with proper health guidelines in the face of the restrictions imposed to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Ministry of Commerce Additional Secretary (Exports) Mohammad Hafizur Rahman confirmed the matter on Tuesday afternoon.
“In the light of the restrictions, we have surmised that conducting the fair while complying with the restrictions would not be difficult,” he said.
The situation is not yet dire enough to close the fair, he added. Since markets and shopping malls are operating as usual, so would the fair. However, the open space in the fair would be strictly monitored to make sure people follow the restrictions.
A month-long Dhaka International Trade Fair is being held at Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center (BBCFEC) in Dhaka.
Government restrictions
Amid the growing concern over the Omicron variant of Covid-19, the government has imposed restrictions on public movement and other activities, including operating public transport at their half capacities.
