Saiful Islam Shanto, a young man with determination, has begun his journey on foot across Bangladesh to spread awareness on three key social issues – blood donation for saving lives, tree plantation to save the nature, and mitigate plastic use for environmental protection.

He set out from the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka at 10am on Friday, and plans to reach Narayanganj on the first day. Saiful plans to complete his tour in all 64 districts by walking around 4,050 km in the next three months.

He plans to walk 50 km a day, and will end his journey in Cox’s Bazar. Shwaroz Adventure and Hikers Society of Bangladesh are supporting Saiful in his endeavor.

During his journey, Saiful will plant a tree in every district of Bangladesh, speak with students of various educational institutions about the importance of environment conservation, blood donation, and mitigate plastic use.

Saiful hails from Cumilla’s Debidwar, and he is a graduate of National University’s Geography and Environmental Science department. He is a member of the country’s leading hiking groups, and has been engaged in regular tours, hiking and trekking over the years.

In 2020, between August 12 and September 20, he traveled on foot to 16 districts, crossing 1,000 km from Cumilla to Banglabandha.

He also walked 100 km from Dhaka to Cumilla in 24 hours on December 16, 2020 to mark the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
