Bangladesh Customs will celebrate International Customs Day 2021 tomorrow with the theme “scaling up custom’s digital transformation by embracing a data culture and building a customs data ecosystem”.

National Board of Revenue (NBR) officials told The Business Post that the theme had been set to enhance transnational and domestic trade and businesses by processing, distributing and combining data.

The day will be observed along with more than 180 member countries of the World Customs Organisation.

NBR has arranged a press meet today, and several programmes, including a seminar on Wednesday in Dhaka, to observe

the day. NBR Chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem will preside over the seminar, where Agriculture Minister Md Abdur Razzaque will be the chief guest.

“Like the other customs day, there will be no rally or leaflet distribution this year due to Covid-19. We will arrange a seminar and an award programme on the customs day,” said an NBR official.

The seminar will discuss ways to implement the theme of the customs day for the development of the people and businesses and how it can boost revenue collection.

According to NBR, the customs wing collected Tk 40,202 crore in revenue till December of this fiscal year, with a 19.5 per cent year-on-year growth as imports have increased in the last few months.

The wing has played a significant role in the overall revenue collection in the last few years, said NBR officials.
