Mosquito rackets come in handy as mayoral drives fall flat

The use of electric bats to drive out mosquito has become very trendy nowadays as the city corporations’ battles against mosquitoes have perennially ended up in a fiasco.

Just think out what the feeling is like when mosquitoes keep causing nuisance with irritating sounds and bites at a time when one is glued to the television screen watching a romantic movie or exciting sports match, preparing assignment for presentation or exam or, say, attending a corporate meeting on some serious issues.

A slight disturbance of any sort from such an invidious fly sends one into a rage.

It is quite impossible for one to draw a mosquito net and stay in to stave off the bites of the insects other than the bed time.

On the other hand as mosquitoes are cold-blooded insects, they increase their fertility more in winter, and so their dominion goes up manifold.

As the city authorities’ drives against mosquito are awfully less than plenty, people have turned to an easy solution to keep the menace at bay.

With the advancement of technology, electric bats have come into being that is now widely used to kill mosquitoes.

The use of the rechargeable device is way too simple and user friendly that has drawn the attention of everyone, and has taken the place of mosquito coil and spray, which are harmful to health as well as to environment.

When the mosquito racket is turned on, a considerable voltage of power is produced that electrocutes the mosquitoes that get entangled with the device.

The racket needs to be charged for two to three hours a day or once after every two days.

Mosquito killing bats of RFL, Vigo, Vision, Bless, Supermoon, Walton etc. are available in the Bangladeshi market.

The price of this device also varies in line with the variations of brands. The price ranges from Tk 420 to Tk 750.

The dealers of these reputed brands reach retailers of hardware and cookery shop owners, and are also connected with some popular online platforms like Daraz, Alibaba, etc.

Md Hasanuzzaman Khokon, a dealer of Vision Electronics, said: “I receive orders from both wholesalers and retailers across the capital and then place the orders accordingly to my office. From there, products are delivered to the listed shops or showrooms.”

Mesbahul Islam, sales executive of Walton showroom at Rampura, said: “The demand for electric mosquito rackets has gone up in this winter. Most customers buy it for using in office or shops.”

While visiting a hardware shop – Shamim Electronics – situated at Motijheel in Dhaka, The Business Post came across a customer namely Porag Hasan.

Porag who was spotted buying an electric bat shared his experience with this correspondent.

“There are traditional mosquito nets in my home for my parents, but my wife and I prefer the electric racket to kill mosquitoes because it doesn’t ruin the beauty of my living room which mosquito net does,” said the buyer.

Like Porag, Rasel Ahmed, Salauddin Mollah, Murad Hasan echoed the same.

They said the price of mosquito net and electric rackets are almost same, but the formers are easier friendly.

While having conversation with The Business Post Reshma Hasib, a housewife, said: “My son is very much fond of video games and while killing mosquitoes with an electric racket he enjoys the sound which is produced due to electric shock.”

“After evening I shut all the doors and windows of my home and kill the existing insects with the electric bat. Later I feel relaxed.”
