The Amar Ekushey Book Fair will start at 8am – instead of the usual 2pm – on Monday, to mark the Language Martyrs’ Day, also observed across the globe as the International Mother Language Day.

Large crowds will be visiting the fair after paying homage to the Central Shaheed Minar on February 21, so the book fair organising committee made the decision on Sunday.

The book fair entrance will be opened for the public six hours before its usual schedule and publishers have been instructed to make their stalls ready for customers early in the morning, insiders told The Business Post, adding that the gates will remain open till 9pm.

The fair was closed at 8.30pm on Sunday to prepare for the Ekushey February.

Every year, the fair begins on the first day of February, but due to the Covid pandemic, the fair was delayed this year and sales are just starting to rise. Publishers are expecting more crowds on February 21, and they are prepared for the influx of visitors.
