Bangladeshi air traffic expansion exceeded global growth in 10 years: Airbus

The growth of Bangladeshi air traffic expanded 9 per cent between 2010 and 2019 while the world compound annual growth rate (CAGR) on air traffic was 6 per cent in the same period.

Besides, air cargo growth in the country was above 200 per cent compared to the world average over the same period.

The European multinational aerospace corporation, Airbus, came up with the statistics while presenting a scenario over the growing aviation markets of Bangladesh at a press briefing held at the VVIP lounge of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Sunday.

The aerospace corporation also predicted that the passengers’ traffic from/to Bangladesh will be over triple in growth by 2040, before the Vision 2041, a national strategic plan.

At the briefing, Remi Maillard, president and managing director of Airbus India and South Asia, said the Bangladeshi aviation sector which has been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic, is expected to recover by 2023.

The Bangladesh government is supporting the aviation sector as part of the national development, he said.

Considering the growing aviation market in Bangladesh, Airbus sought a stable relationship with the Bangladeshi aviation sector, he added.

During the briefing, the Airbus authorities presented three new aircraft — A350-1000 (480 seat capacity), A350-900 (440 seat capacity) and A350F (30 main deck containers) which are equipped with modern technology and have various facilities.
