Some 52 differently able people got recruited on the spot at the seventh edition of the Annual ICT Job Fair that aims to create employment for the disadvantaged portion of people with ICT talent.
Another 310 people were shortlisted at the unique ICT job fair and a good number of them will gradually get employed, according to Bangladesh Computer Council, who organised the unique ICT fair on the NGO Affairs Bureau campus in the capital’s Agargaon on Sunday.
Around 500 people submitted their curriculum vitae to the BCC and got registered to attend the event while 52 ICT companies and non-government organisations took part in the fair and they scrutinised applicants’ credentials and took their interviews.
As the chief guest of the programmme, State Minister for ICT Division Junaid Ahmed Palak said, “Just ten years ago, the people with disabilities were considered to be social burden. The scenario has changed now as the present government took various steps for the underprivileged segments”.
“We shouldn’t neglect them for their disabilities rather explore their talent, and for that our attitude towards them has to be changed,” he said, adding that the government is working for creating congenial atmosphere for them in educational institutions and workplaces.
“As part of the initiatives for the differently able people, we have launched a new project titled ‘Emporia’ where 16,000 people will get ICT trainings – 560 for entrepreneurship development, 1000 freelancers, and 1000 for job oriented programs,” he added.
“An e-trading portal will be created for those ICT entrepreneurs” the state minister said, adding the project will be implemented initially through 10 ICT Resource Centers across the country, later it will spread to every districts”, he added.
ICT Division Senior Secretary NM Ziaul Haque, NGO Affairs Bureau Director General KM Tarikul Islam and CSID Executive director Khondokar Jahurul Alam, among others, attended the programme.
