Chinese company to invest $54m in BEPZA Economic Zone

Campvalley Chittagong Ltd – a firm based in Hong Kong, China – will set up camping equipment and garments manufacturing industry in BEPZA Economic Zone with an investment of $54 million.

This move will provide employment opportunities to 9,380 Bangladeshi nationals. The Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) signed an agreement to this effect with Campvalley Chittagong Ltd at the BEPZA Complex on Thursday, a press release read.

Ali Reza Mazid, member (Investment Promotion) of BEPZA and Hong Woo Lee, chairman of Campvalley Chittagong signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.

This foreign owned company will produce 21.4 million pieces of tent, bag & backpack, camping chair & furniture, luggage, sleeping bag, different kinds of knit & woven garments, gazebo, umbrella, mattress and furniture frame annually.

BEPZA Executive Chairman Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman witnessed the signing ceremony.

Among others, Member (Engineering) Mohammad Faruque Alam, Executive Director (Administration) Md Zakir Hossain Chowdhury, Executive Director (Public Relations) Nazma Binte Alamgir, Executive Director (Investment Promotion) Md Tanvir Hossain, Executive Director (Enterprise Services) Md Khorshid Alam and Project Director of BEPZA EZ Md Hafizur Rahman were present during the signing ceremony.

There are already two other tent manufacturing companies in Chattogram and Karnaphuli EPZs under the same owner.

Before this, BEPZA signed a lease agreement with five other companies to set up industry in BEPZA Economic Zone. These companies will invest $60 million, and provide employment opportunities to 23,582 Bangladeshi nationals.
