FBCCI seeks Mexican investment in diverse areas

Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Md Jashim Uddin has urged Mexican investors to invest in research and development (R&D) in Bangladesh’s thriving sectors, including agro products, frozen fish, and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG).

Highlighting Bangladesh’s rapid development and favourable investment policies, he said the investors could also invest in diversified jute and leather goods, automobile, pharmaceuticals, plastic goods, home furnishings and IT as these sectors have potential as well.

The FBCCI chief made the call during a webinar on Monday. To create better opportunities and bring the business communities of Bangladesh and Mexico under a single platform, a virtual business platform was launched during the webinar, which was organised by Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Investment and Technology (COMCE).

Jashim said diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and Mexico were officially established on July 8, 1975. “Since then, bilateral relations between the two countries have gradually grown but have not yet reached the fullest potential.”

FBCCI Director Abul Kasem Khan gave a PowerPoint presentation on trade and investment opportunities and potentials in Bangladesh and Mexico.

Ambassador of Mexico to India (concurrent to Bangladesh) Federico Salas Lotfe, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Mexico Abida Islam, Vice-Chairman and Chairman of the Asia Pacific Business Section, COMCE Amb. Sergio Ley, Vice-chairman of the Asia Pacific Business Section, COMCE Agustin Garcia Rechy, FBCCI Director Prity Chakraborty, ‍and its Secretary General Mohammad Mahfuzul Hoque were present at the webinar, which was moderated by Manager of the Asia Pacific Business Section, COMCE Jessica Ortiz.

The speakers said the current Bangladesh-Mexico trade volume is around $300 million and can reach $1 billion by the next several years.
