Eminent economist Dr Atiur Rahman has been awarded the Bangla Academy ‘Rabindra Puraskar 2021’, for his outstanding contribution in the field of literature.
Academy President Selina Hossain conferred the award on Sunday in the Bangla Academy auditorium.
Along with the crest, the former governor of Bangladesh Bank also received a letter of appreciation and a cheque for Tk1 lakh.
On the occasion, Bangla Academy Director-General Muhammad Nurul Huda delivered the welcome address.
Atiur Rahman dedicated the award to Wahidul Haque, a cultural pioneer in Bangladesh, Sanjida Khatun, a Rabindra Sangeet expert, along with his wife and daughters.
After receiving the award, Atiur Rahman said, “Rabindranath is a symbol of our nationality and existence. Poet Rabindranath Tagore has made a major contribution to the worldwide distinctiveness and nobility of Bengalis. In addition, he has advanced Bengali aesthetic practice.”
