Bangladesh Chapter of the World Organisation for Al-Azhar Graduates – an association of students from the Al-Azhar University in Egypt – has started its journey.

This ancient educational institution has approved the appointment of Alhaj Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman as the chapter president, the university said at a press conference held at the Chattogram Press Club on Sunday.

Addressing the event, Al Azhar Graduates Bangladesh Chapter President and PHP Family Chairman Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman said, “The main objective of education is to teach people to respect one another by doing good deeds and eliminating discrimination.

“The Azhar Graduates Bangladesh Chapter will work towards this goal.” The Ekushey Padak winner also called upon all to study the spiritual aspects of education including moderate practice of Islam.

Syed Mohammad Jalal Uddin Azhari, head of the Department of Islamic Studies, Southern University in Chattogram, said at the press conference, “During his visit to Egypt in 2018, Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman met with the grand imam of Al-Azhar.

“The grand imam then requested him to take charge of the organisation’s Bangladesh branch. Later, a delegation from the Al Azhar University visited Bangladesh at the invitation of Sufi Mizanur Rahman in 2018. The organisation then formed its Bangladesh chapter.”

He added that the chapter led by Sufi Mizanur Rahman has already received approval from the governments of both Bangladesh and Egypt.

Among others, several members of the World Organisation for Al-Azhar Graduates Bangladesh Chapter were present at the press conference.
