Shwapno, the largest retail chain in Bangladesh, has successfully delivered its second shipment of fruits and vegetables to Hong Kong.

Saiful Alam, Shwapno’s export initiative advisor and team leader, said, “The second export batch which reached Hong Kong on Sunday included GLOBAL G.A.P. Certified Bottle Gourds.”

“We have also included mangoes in our export category this time. We exported 100kgs of Gonbindhobhog variety of mangoes to Hong Kong from a few selected orchards in Satkhira. We were able to accomplish this with the assistance of Solidaridad Network Asia,” he added.

Shwapno started its export journey with vegetables and fruits on March 31, according to a press release.

The first consignment consisted of pointed gourds, ladyfingers, green mangoes, potatoes, bitter gourds and 26 other items of vegetables and fruits, which were also exported to Hong Kong.

Saiful Alam said that Shwapno was the first and only retail chain in South-East Asia to become a GLOBALG.A.P certified member and the only Bangladeshi company to gain such recognition.

“USAID’s feed the future program has fully supported us in this journey of ensuring safe food for global consumers,” he added.

Now onwards, Shwapno will be exporting seven types of products to Australia, the UAE, the US, and the UK as mentioned in the GLOBALG.A.P certificate, the press release added.

With over 60 outlets, Shwapno is the largest grocery chain in Bangladesh and Best Retail Brand in the country.

Shwapno has roped in several partners to deliver groceries and other everyday essentials at the doorsteps of customers.
