1st Covid death recorded in 30 days

Bangladesh on Saturday recorded one Covid death after 30 consecutive days while the daily infection rate dropped to 0.41 per cent in the past 24 hours.

On Friday, the positivity rate stood at 0.79 per cent.

With the fresh infections, the total caseload reached 19,53,204, according to the daily virus update by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) released on Saturday afternoon.

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 3,927 samples at 879 laboratories across the country.

Meanwhile, 172 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24 hours, raising the overall recovery to 19,00,747.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8, 2020, and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 of the same year.

The daily case positivity rate reached its peak at 33.37 per cent on January 28 this year.

The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.49 per cent. The recovery rate remained unchanged at 97.31 per cent as 172patients recovered during this period.

In April, the country reported only five Covid-linked deaths and 1,114 new cases, while 14,100 patients recovered from the disease, according to the DGHS.

Among the five deaths during the period, two were unvaccinated patients while three were vaccinated with two doses of the Covid vaccine.

The country reported its first zero Covid death in a single day on November 20 last year, along with 178 cases, since the pandemic broke out here in March 2020.

On January 28, Bangladesh logged its previous highest positivity rate of 33.37 per cent.

The country registered its highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year and daily fatalities of 264 on August 10 in the same year.
