Thailand is keen to work with Bangladesh on cyber security, e-governance and startup ecosystem development and knowledge sharing issues, said Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn, minister for Digital Economy and Society of Thailand.
The minister made the remarks during a bilateral meeting with ICT State Minister of Bangladesh, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, at his office in Bangkok on Monday.
During the meeting, they discussed digital health, digital education, digital government, cyber security, startup ecosystem development, and research and innovation issues in both the countries, states a press release issued by the ICT division.
In the meeting, Palak highlighted the success of Digital Bangladesh and Bangladesh’s plan to build a smart Bangladesh by 2041 and the success in GDP growth, internet penetration, IT industry growth and digital governance.
“We are working closely with all BIMSTEC countries to build regional strength in the ICT sector. I believe that BIMSTEC countries need to develop their social media monitoring system, communication applications and particular data policies to protect their sovereignty,” Palak said.
The speakers at the meeting said that the structure of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) of Thailand is similar to that of the ICT Division of Bangladesh which is promising for both countries.
A draft of the Bangladesh Data Protection Act has been prepared recently which Thailand has already enacted. This measure is very necessary to protect our data sovereignty, Palak opined according to the release.
