State Minister for the Ministry of Social Welfare Md Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru has said long-term preservation of digital information is now a matter of great importance for sustainable development of science, education, culture, and society.

He made the remarks while addressing the 5th WSWD Conference as the chief guest at the YWCA Conference Hall in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area on Wednesday. Professor M Habibur Rahman presided over the function.

WSWD2022: 5th International Conference on 'Co-Building A New Eco-Social World: Leave No One Behind-Achieving SDGs & Community Resilience' is a three-day conference organized by the Community Social Work Practice and Development Foundation in association with the Department of Sociology and Social Work of The People's University of Bangladesh as Academic Partner along with other national and international associates.

More than 120 participants from 35 countries attended the conference and placed their ideas and opinions. Many participated in the conference virtually.

As a chief guest, the state minister said: “To build a new eco-social world we have to exchange our views and ideas with the constructive social expertise that can contribute to the development of our society. Our skills will increase through such programme and conference.”

“As a member of the Ministry of Social Welfare I view this event as a huge knowledge-based event. I would like to work with the civil society in this regard to build a sustainable social system.”

This effort must play a vital role in taking social work and social services to a better position and help achieve SDGs, the state minister said.

The speakers at the conference stressed the need for integrating people for a peaceful life and society so that everyone can get the share of development of the nation.

Still child marriages and domestic violence is an obstacle to achieving sustainable development goals in Bangladesh. Women empowerment too is one of the key to getting out of this problem, they said.
