160 Bangladeshi migrants deported from Libya

The Libyan government deported 160 irregular migrants to their home country, Bangladesh, on Thursday morning.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has facilitated the safe return of Bangladeshi migrants stranded in Libya through its Voluntary Humanitarian Return (VHR) program, IOM said in a statement.

The migrants were stranded in Libya due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the challenging security situation in the country. IOM had worked closely with Libyan authorities and the Embassy of Bangladesh in Libya to assist the migrants’ deportation from the country, the statement added.
