The holders of diplomatic, official, special or service passports can travel to Oman without visa following an agreement of visa exemption between the governments of Bangladesh and Oman.
“An agreement was approved at the cabinet meeting regarding visa exemption between Bangladesh and Oman,” Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam told a news briefing at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka on Monday.
At present, he said, Bangladesh is enjoying such visa exemption facilities in 20 countries of the world.
“There is no need for visas for the diplomats, officials, special or service passport holders who will go to the Middle Eastern country for work, but the facility will not be applicable for any tourism purpose,” Anwarul said.
He said the agreement titled ‘Agreement between the government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and the government of the Sultanate of Oman on the mutual visa exemption for holders of diplomatic, official, special or service passports’ was approved at the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office in Dhaka.
“Earlier, we had signed the agreement with the permission from the prime minister on an emergency basis. Since any international agreement has to take approval from the cabinet, it approved the agreement today (Monday).”
On March 24 this year, Bangladesh and Oman inked an agreement on mutual visa waiver for holders of diplomatic, official, special, and service passports.
