USCG team visits Ctg port

A team of four members of the US Coast Guard (USCG) visited Chittagong Port on Tuesday to monitor security issues in the port and shipping facilities of the country.

The team came to Bangladesh to oversee the compliance with the International Ship and Port Facilities (ISPS) Code, introduced by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

On Tuesday, the four-member USCG team had a courtesy call with the port chairman and other officials of the port, said Mohammed Nasir Uddin, Chief Personal Officer of Chittagong Port Authority.

“The USGS members visited different port facilities including the container terminals and several private inland container depots,” he said adding that the team will prepare a report by August this year.

The Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) is taking the USGS visit seriously due to the recent fire incident at BM Container Depot, a private container yard.

Although this is a regular visit by the US security team, they had been refraining from such visits for the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
