BB board of directors upholds suspension order for 2 officials

The Bangladesh Bank (BB) Board of Directors upheld the suspension orders for its two joint directors accused of leaking question papers for the recruitment test of five state-run banks and CCTV operators’ recruitment test.

The two officers appealed to the Board of Directors to condone the punishment but the top body of the central bank didn’t respond and upheld their punishment order.

The decision was taken at the 422nd meeting of the Board of Directors on Thursday, a source confirmed it to The Business Post.

Almas Ali and Abdullah Al Mabud, both joint directors of the central bank, were suspended on 13 June 2021 after it was detected that during a recruitment test for the post of CCTV operator in October 2020 the duo helped an impersonator to sit for the exam instead of the actual job seeker.

The news of their suspension came to light after Almas was accused of leaking the questions of a recruitment test of the five state-run banks on 6 November last year.

The board meeting was chaired by Governor Fazle Kabir. This was the last meeting of the governor.

His term expires on 3 July after serving six years in three terms. At the end of the meeting, the central bank officials gave him a memento.

The meeting discussed the promotion policy of the central bank for ninth and above grades but did not accept it. However, the board agreed to review the increase of lunch subsidy and iftar expense of the central bank employees.

The Bangladesh Bank approved a currency swap with the Bank of Russia on 12 November last year to make the payment method easier between the two central banks and promote bilateral business. This has been discussed at the board meeting.
