A delegation from the European Parliament's international trade committee on Wednesday visited the factory of Aman Spinning Mills Limited (ASML) in Ashulia, Savar, to inspect its green initiatives to ensure a sustainable production line.

Tahrin Aman, founder and managing director of ASML, which the power division recognises as the most power-efficient spinning mill in the country, hosted the delegation and gave the visitors a tour, highlighting the company's commitment to sustainability and respect for labour rights.

The European delegates, led by HE Charles Whiteley, appreciated the fact that ASML was committed to the sustainable model of “Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle,” said a press release.

The fact that ASML manufactures yarn from food waste such as banana peels and pineapple leaves and creates new sustainable fancy yarn using textile waste was the most intriguing aspect for visitors.

The team also admired the organization's dedication to ensuring employee safety in all aspects by adhering to the Bangladesh Labor Law and international codes of conduct.

ASML's core target is to reduce carbon emissions, and its core strength is a commitment to ensuring quality, research and development, and innovation.

Aman spinning is also the only spinning mill in Bangladesh that has been accredited by the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA) as the most energy-efficient spinning mill.

A delegation of the European Parliament's Committee on International Trade is on a three-day visit to inspect how much progress Bangladesh has made in implementing the EU's nine-point action plan to address labour and human rights issues – a prerequisite to stay eligible for the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) facility.
