Fifth Indian transhipment consignment arrives in Ctg

The fifth consignment of Indian transhipment  has arrived at Chittagong Port. One container of TMT bars will be shipped to India via Shaola Port in Sylhet.

To explore new routes for the movement of cargo to and from India's north-eastern states using the waterways in India and Bangladesh, MV Trans Samudera sailed from the Kolkata Port on Saturday carrying 25 tonnes of TMT bars of Tata Steel.

Mohammad Habib, an official of Mango Line Ltd, a shipping agent and local representative of the Indian goods, told The Business Post, “Trans Samudera reached the outer anchorage of Chittagong Port on Tuesday afternoon. After customs clearance, a trailer will leave for Sylhet with the container full of TMT bars.”

According to Chattogram customs house sources, necessary measures have been taken to release the transhipment container urgently. A Scott team has been formed to supervise the transportation of the container to the Indian border.

After unloading the steel bars MV Trans Samudera will be loaded with another container of tea that has reached the Chittagong Port from Silchar in Assam, through the Dawki and Tamabil Land Customs Stations, to carry it to Kolkata.

This transhipment is being carried out under the Agreement for the use of the Chittagong and Mongla Ports (ACMP) signed between India and Bangladesh. The MV Trans Samudera will explore the route between Tamabil and Chattogram.

Earlier, the MV Rishad Rayan, another Indian cargo ship, completed its Kolkata-Mongla-Kolkata voyage, exploring the route between Tamabil and Mongla.
