In a bid to ensure the country’s power security and maintain uninterrupted power supplies in factories, experts have urged to install solar panels in industrial establishments.
They came up with this statement while addressing a workshop styled ‘Installation of Industrial Rooftop Solar System’ organised by the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) and the Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL), held in the capital on Thursday.
Md Habibur Rahman, power division secretary at the ministry of power, energy and mineral resources, attended the event as the chief guest, while Habibullah N Karim, vice-president of MCCI, was present as a special guest with Sharifa Khan, chairman of IDCOL in the chair.
“The uncertainty and price fluctuations of imported oil and gas resources are hurting the electricity generation but Bangladesh needs an uninterrupted supply of power to continue its economic development,” said Habibullah N Karim.
“A workable industrial rooftop solar system, to this end, could make it easier to ensure the country’s energy security along with uninterrupted power supplies in industries,” he added.
“Because of being affordable and eco-friendly, this system could also be an excellent defense against the global warming, a serious concern across the world,” Habibullah continued.
The essence of the discussions of other speakers was that electricity generated from the industrial rooftop solar system, could be much cheaper than that of the existing prices of the national grid.
With an installed and to be installed rooftop solar systems, IDCOL has a target to generate 300MW of electricity through the rooftop industrial solar system by 2025.
