Charge sheet submitted against Evaly CEO Rassel, 2 others

Police have submitted a charge sheet against three people including Mohammad Rassel, managing director and Chief Executive Officer of e-commerce platform Evaly, in a fraud case.

Sub-Inspector Md Anisur Rahman of Dhanmondi Police Station, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Saturday.

The other two charge-sheeted accused are Rassel’s wife Shamima Nasrin, also chairman of Evaly, and its vice-president Abdullah Al Mamun alias Akash.

Of them, Rassel is now in jail, while Shamima is out on bail. Akash was shown fugitive in the charge sheet and police appealed to the court to issue an arrest warrant against him as he did not get bail in the case.

However, police dropped the names of three others — Evaly’s manager Jahedul Islam Hemoy, its high official Nasir Ahmed and bike department officer Sakib Rahman — from the charge sheet as their correct addresses were not found during the investigation.

On October 7 last year, Monir Hossain of Uttara Paschim area filed the case with the CMM Court against the accused on charges of embezzling Tk, 2,36,000.

Following a court order, later, the case was registered with Dhanmondi Police Station on October 17 of the same year.
