Govt to launch over 5,000 digital labs on Oct 18

The government will inaugurate more than 5,000 digital computer labs on October 18 to mark the Sheikh Russell Day, said ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak.

Palak made the announcement while addressing a programme titled “Sponsor Night for International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) World Finals,” held at the Hotel Intercontinental in Dhaka on Sunday night.

He added, “The countries unable to create skilled human resources will lag behind in the coming days. To this end, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has set another Vision 2041 of Smart Bangladesh to create an innovative, knowledge-based society.

“We have launched a National High School Programming Contest in order to create an innovative culture in our society.”

Palak then added, “We are implementing 300 Sheikh Russel Schools of Future in various upazilas and parliamentary constituencies, where the knowledge and skills of children and teenagers will be developed about the necessary technologies of the 4th industrial revolution.

The state minister called on corporate representatives to sponsor the final phase of ICPC world finals, and urged them to participate in various initiatives in Bangladesh to achieve the goal of knowledge-based economy by 2041.

Senior Secretary of ICT Division NM Zeaul Alam, University of Asia Pacific (UAP) Vice-Chancellor Professor Kamrul Ahsan, and Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) Executive Director Ranjit Kumar spoke on the occasion among others.

Mohammad Enamul Kabir, Director of Bangladesh Computer Council said, “This year’s event will be held in Dhaka from November 6-11 November. Students of 8 universities of Bangladesh are participating in this event.

In cooperation with the University of Asia Pacific, the ICT division is going to organise the prestigious programming competition in Bangladesh. Bangladesh has been participating in the ICPC since 1998, and it is now the 4th country in Asia to host this world premiere event.
