Govt officials allowed foreign travels for upskilling

The government has allowed its officials to go on foreign trips on a limited scale as part of skill development.

The finance ministry issued a circular in this regard on Monday.

The circular said government officials could travel abroad with the approval of the appropriate authorities and the order would be applicable to both development and management budgets.

It also said the order would be effective immediately.

The circular said government officials could go abroad to pursue master’s and doctorate degrees under public finance or scholarships and fellowships offered by development organisations and universities.

Besides, government officials could participate in specialised and professional training organised by foreign training institutes and universities based on memoranda of understanding signed between them and the government.

But exposure visits, study tours, foreign travels under innovation, workshops, and seminars under operational and development budgets will remain suspended in the context of the current global economic situation, the circular added.
